Program Overview
Temple University Pre-Med Health Scholars Program
The Temple University Pre-Med Health Scholar Program is designed for high-achieving students who have distinguished themselves with impressive academic records and a demonstrated interest in the field of medicine. This program allows students the chance to excel in the competitive, changing field of health care.
Important Application Information
To qualify for the program, students must meet the following criteria:
- Be a current Temple undergraduate student (transfer students are ineligible).
- Be enrolled in the Temple Honors Program by June 30th of their first year as an undergraduate student.
- Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
- Be registered with Pre-Professional Health Advising (PPHA) and have met with a PPHA advisor during the first year of undergraduate study.
- Submit an ePortfolio to PPHA by June 30th of the first undergraduate year.
- Submit an application to the Pre-Med Health Scholars Program (LKSOM Linkage) during the Fall semester of their sophomore year.
- Maintain an undergraduate GPA of 3.6 or higher.
- Have volunteer experience in healthcare settings.
- Demonstrate a commitment to service or volunteer activities.
Note
While Temple University is test-optional, students interested in the Pre-Med Health Scholars Program are strongly encouraged to submit SAT or ACT scores with their Common Application to strengthen their candidacy.
Provisional Acceptance
The Pre-Med Health Scholar program allows for provisional acceptance to the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University. To be considered for admission to LKSOM, Pre-Med Health Scholars must meet the following minimum requirements by January of their Junior year of college:
- Course credits as detailed under the agreement
- A cumulative undergraduate GPA of 3.6
- A cumulative undergraduate science GPA of 3.6
- MCAT minimum composite score of 509 with no section less than 126
- Volunteer exposure to the health care professions, community service, and research
