Introduction to the Workforce Education & Lifelong Learning Program
The Workforce Education & Lifelong Learning (WELL) program is designed to support students who are ready to accomplish their academic and workforce goals. The program helps community learners gain 21st Century skills in technological society while striving and accomplishing academic success.
Program Description
Classes are designed to provide flexible, diverse, and quality instruction to meet the goals and needs of adult learners who are students, parents, workers, and citizens. A blended model of classes allows students to attend face-to-face classes, register for distance learning classes, and prepare for employment with case management support. Temple University students tutor adults who have earned the opportunity through attendance and academic progress.
Student Requirements
To be successful, WELL students need to be:
- Highly Determined
- Self-Motivated
- Self-Managed
- Possess a Basic Understanding of Computer Skills
Target Audience
The target audience for the WELL program includes individuals who want to attain a high school equivalency, build English language skills, gain and retain employment, and/or transition to postsecondary education or training.
Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible for the WELL program, applicants must:
- Be 16 years or older
- Be a resident of Pennsylvania
- Not currently be enrolled in a public or private secondary or post-secondary school, or do not have a secondary school diploma or equivalency, or are basic skills deficient, or are English language learners
Application and Enrollment Process
The application and enrollment process involves:
- Submitting an application form
- Completing an Intake Form and Consent form
- Undergoing a reading and/or math assessment
- Attending an Orientation session to discuss educational and career goals
- Receiving a class schedule that meets academic needs and accommodates the student's schedule
Class Schedule Options
The WELL program offers weekday classes in the morning, afternoon, and evening, as well as Saturday classes. Students are placed in classes depending on their academic level, personal schedule, and availability.
Hours of Operation
The program operates on Monday through Saturday, with varying morning, evening, and weekend hours.
Location of Services
The WELL program is located at Temple University, ECEC Building, 1509 Cecil B. Moore Avenue, Suite 415, Philadelphia, PA 19121.
Funding
The WELL program is made possible thanks to the support of the Pennsylvania Department of Education / Division of Adult Education. The Division of Adult Education administers federal and state adult basic and family literacy funds, providing a full range of services that support Pennsylvanians in developing basic skills necessary to participate fully in the education of their children, find and keep family-sustaining employment, or obtain a high school equivalency credential.
