Overview

The Specialist Certificate in the Management of Low Vision Patients is a part-time course designed for established optometrists seeking to continue their professional development and extend their capabilities in the management of low vision patients. This entirely online course provides specialised training in clinical set-up, application, and support of patients with low vision.

Course Overview

This course is offered by the Department of Optometry & Vision Sciences in the School of Health Sciences. It aims to equip optometrists with the skills required for the comprehensive assessment of low vision, prescription, and instruction on optical and non-optical devices. The course also provides insight into how to improve patients' lives through an understanding of the social and personal impacts of vision loss.

Target Audience

This course is designed for already-qualified optometrists looking to advance their existing skills and knowledge. It does not carry professional accreditation and is not a pathway to professional registration as an optometrist. International students are welcome to study this course, but please note that it is not available to international students who require a student visa to study in Australia, as it does not meet the onshore study requirements and is not registered with CRICOS.

Continuing Professional Development (CPD)

Students will gain accredited CPD points as they study and work towards the Masters qualification. CPD points are relevant to practitioners based in Australia or New Zealand. Suitably qualified overseas candidates are also welcome to apply.
