Program Overview

Master of Science (Earth Sciences)

Overview

The Master of Science (Earth Sciences) is a graduate coursework program that allows students to explore various aspects of the Earth, from the solid Earth to the fluid Earth and the processes that operate at the interface of these regions. Students can choose between the Geology and Atmospheric Science streams, with the flexibility to select from a wide range of core and elective subjects.

Course Structure

  • The course is designed with flexibility in mind, allowing students to choose their own path.
  • Students will have access to the best academic expertise from across the region, thanks to collaborations with other Australian universities.
  • The major focus of the course will be the research project, which students will complete under the supervision of an academic expert.

Research Skills

  • The research project will provide students with hands-on experience in research and analysis.
  • Upon completion of the course, students will have a major research project to feature in their CV, and perhaps even a published journal article.
  • The research experience may inspire students to continue to a PhD or put their analytical and communication skills to use in the global workforce.

Professional Skills

  • In addition to technical skills, the course offers high-level professional subjects, including scientific communication, modelling, programming, business, and more.
  • Students can also choose to complete an internship in a science or technology-related workplace for course credit.
