Program Overview
Master of Biotechnology
The Master of Biotechnology is a graduate coursework program that provides students with the opportunity to study all aspects of the biotechnology product pipeline. The program is designed to give students advanced technical skills, as well as business acumen and communications skills, to develop new processes and products in health, agribusiness, food, and other areas of human technology.
Overview
The program is ranked #1 in Australia for Biological Sciences and #19 in the world. It is a 2-year full-time or 4-year part-time program, located on campus at Parkville. The program has two intakes, in March and July, and offers Commonwealth Supported Places (CSPs) and Access Melbourne entry schemes.
Course Structure
The program provides students with the chance to put their knowledge into practice with one of the university's industry partners. Students can take an Industry Project in Biotechnology, which involves solving a real biotechnology-related problem with an industry partner, such as CSL, Trajan Scientific, or Sienna Cancer Diagnostics. Students can also choose to complete an internship in a science or technology-related workplace for course credit.
Career Outcomes
The biotechnology industry is predicted to have an annual turnover of around $1 trillion by 2025. Most jobs in biotechnology companies require both a scientific background and an understanding of the commercial requirements of the industry. The program's graduates are in demand in the diverse and growing biotech industry.
