Course Details
The course consists of an online lecture and a hands-on workshop.
- Online lecture: 1.5 hours
- Hands-on component: 3 hours + 0.5 hour for Q&A + discussion
Online Lecture
The online lecture, 'Periodontal soft tissue surgery and grafting', examines where soft and/or hard tissue grafting is beneficial in the management of defects. It introduces management techniques for these defects using autogenous tissue and xenogenic membranes and regeneration products used in dentistry.
Hands-on Workshop
The hands-on workshop, 'Advanced grafting', provides an introduction to grafting techniques using a pig jaw model, with a focus on flap design and surgical technique for soft and hard tissue grafting. Participants will:
- Undertake benchtop exercises on a pig-jaw model with a focus on surgical technique for soft and hard tissue grafting
- Undertake exercises using grafting material to allow an understanding of material handling and placement technique
- Practice and refine suturing technique for different flap designs and suture materials
