Introduction to the Advanced Mechanical Engineering (MSc) Program

The Advanced Mechanical Engineering (MSc) program is designed to provide students with advanced knowledge of mechanical engineering over a range of specialist subjects. This research-led program includes an advanced project in an area of the student's choice, ensuring they gain a deep understanding of the subject matter.

Admissions Criteria

To be considered for the program, applicants must:


  • Hold a 2:2 honours degree in Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent international degree.
  • Provide a copy of their degree certificate and transcripts.
  • Provide a copy of their IELTS certificate with an overall score of 6.5 and 5.5 in all subskills.
  • Applications are reviewed, and offers are made on a first-come, first-served basis.

Course Structure

The program is a one-year full-time MSc course, beginning with a taught section worth 120 credits. The course includes:


  • Eight taught optional modules, split between the Autumn and Spring semesters.
  • Two twenty-credit Case Study modules, forming both group and individual activities.
  • A 60-credit project and dissertation stage.
