Physiotherapy (MSc)

Overview

The MSc Physiotherapy programme is designed for qualified physiotherapists who want to advance their skills and knowledge in their profession. The programme aims to develop critical thinking, enhance employability, and inform physiotherapy healthcare practices.

Admissions Criteria

To be considered for an offer, applicants must meet the entry requirements, which include:


  • A copy of their qualification certificate and transcripts, showing an honours degree or diploma in physiotherapy, or an equivalent international qualification.
  • A copy of their IELTS certificate with an overall score of 6.5 and 5.5 in all subskills, or evidence of an accepted equivalent.
  • A personal statement addressing specific points, including why they selected the programme, relevant experience, and career plans.

Course Structure

The MSc Physiotherapy programme is modular, with students completing 120 credits in the taught component and a further 60 credits in the dissertation component. The programme includes core and optional modules, with the option to tailor module choices to individual needs.

  • Evidencing Learning in Specialist Professional Practice (30 credits)
  • Research Methods and Data Analysis in Healthcare (30 credits)

Optional Modules

  • Sport and Exercise Participation, Inter-Disciplinary Management and Injury Prevention (30 credits)
  • Musculoskeletal Diagnosis and Treatment (30 credits)
  • Neurorehabilitation: A Theoretical Basis (30 credits)
  • Clinical Kinaesiology and Tissue Pathology (30 credits)
  • Cardio-Respiratory Care: Theory to Practice (30 credits)

Dissertation

Students can choose from three dissertation options:


  • Empirical Dissertation (60 credits)
  • Dissertation M Level: Work-based Project (60 credits)
  • Dissertation M Level: Systematic Review of the Literature (60 credits)

Learning and Assessment

Teaching is mainly through workshops, tutorials, and seminars, with self-directed study forming an important part of the course. Assessment is through a variety of written assessments and oral presentations, with the dissertation being a culmination of the development of these skills.


Tuition Fees

Tuition fees for 2026 entry are:


  • Home status: 」9,950 (Year one), with no deposit required.
  • Overseas status: 」24,700 (Year one), with a 」2,500 deposit required.

Funding

Financial support may be available to individuals who meet certain criteria, including Master's Scholarships, Postgraduate Loans, and an Alumni Discount.

Postgraduate-level study is essential for advancing to advanced and specialist practice.
