This module helps students develop their writing skills at a more advanced level, building on prior knowledge from creative writing courses. It explores how to advance writing skills, including understanding how to be 'competition ready', approaching an agent, a publishing house, and self-publishing successfully.

Learning and Teaching

The course consists of two-hour weekly meetings, including workshops, seminars, and lectures. Learners will discuss their progress, ask questions, and workshop their stories in small groups. The university's Virtual Learning Environment provides additional resources.

Prior Learning Requirements

This is an advanced creative writing course, and students must have successfully completed at least three Level 4 writing modules within Lifelong Learning. Other prior learning from other providers will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Coursework and Assessment

Assessment includes producing a Creative Writing Portfolio of 2,500-3,000 words and a critical commentary of around 500 words. The course is marked on a percentage basis.
