Introduction to Civil and Environmental Engineering with a Year in Industry (BEng)

The Civil and Environmental Engineering with a Year in Industry (BEng) program is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of civil and environmental engineering principles, as well as practical experience in the industry. This program is accredited by the Institution of Civil Engineers, the Institution of Structural Engineers, the Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation, and the Institute of Highway Engineers on behalf of the Engineering Council.

Course Structure

This is a four-year full-time degree program, with largely core modules in Years One and Two. The third year is spent working in industry, and Year Four has a carefully chosen balance of core and optional modules.

Year One

Year one consists of a series of lectures and practical laboratory sessions, providing students with a solid base for the next two years of their degree program.

Year Two

Year Three: Sandwich Year

Year three is spent working in industry. Students are normally expected to be in employment for a minimum of 30 weeks to satisfy the minimum University requirement.

Year Four

Year four includes a major project, with a value of a quarter of the overall year. Students will work individually, alongside a supervising staff member.

Entry Requirements

We accept a combination of A-levels and other qualifications, as well as equivalent international qualifications subject to entry requirements.

• A level: ABB-BBC, must include grade B in Maths.
• International Baccalaureate: 32-30 overall or 665-655 in 3 HL subjects, must include grade 5 in HL Maths.
• Baccalaureate Wales: From September 2023, there will be a new qualification called the Advanced Skills Baccalaureate Wales (level 3).
• GCSE and other essential requirements: Students must have or be working towards English language or Welsh language at GCSE grade C/4 or an equivalent.
