Program Overview


Cognitive and Behavioural Therapies (PgCert)

Overview

The Cognitive and Behavioural Therapies (PgCert) is a part-time, one-year program accredited by the British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP). This program provides high-quality postgraduate training in Cognitive and Behavioural Therapies (CBT) and is designed for professionals working in mental health.

Admissions Criteria

To be considered for an offer, applicants must meet the following entry requirements:


  1. A copy of their degree certificate and transcripts showing an honours degree in a relevant subject area.
  2. Evidence of a core profession in mental health or a Knowledge, Skills, and Attitudes (KSA) portfolio.
  3. Evidence of working (paid or unpaid) in the UK and the ability to practice individual CBT with clients experiencing anxiety and depression.
  4. Evidence of having a manager and a clinical supervisor.
  5. A personal statement evidencing personal suitability, interest, and commitment to CBT.
  6. Student membership of the BABCP.
  7. Evidence of GCSE English language grade C/4 or alternative acceptable evidence.
  8. A completed Additional Questions form.

Application Deadline and Selection Process

  • Application deadline: 25 March 2026
  • Selection process: Applications will be reviewed, and if entry requirements are met, applicants will be invited to an interview.

Course Structure

The Postgraduate Certificate (PgCert) consists of a series of training days commencing in September, focusing on developing a critical understanding of the theoretical and research base for CBT.


Core Modules

  • The Fundamentals of CBT (20 credits)
  • CBT for Specific Disorders (40 credits)

Learning and Assessment

  • Teaching methods include didactic teaching, discussion, video, clinical material, reflections on practice, role play, and experiential exercises.
  • Assessment includes an essay, a case study, and two extended clinical narratives, as well as log books detailing CBT-related activity.

Tuition Fees

  • For home status: 」4,500 for year one, with no deposit required.
  • This course does not currently accept students from outside the UK/EU.

Funding

Financial support may be available to individuals who meet certain criteria.


Career Prospects

Graduates will have evidence of skills in Cognitive Behavioural Therapies recognized by the BABCP, which can be used in various employment fields.
