Russian Intermediate Course
Course Description
The Russian Intermediate course is a follow-on course from Russian for Improvers II, enabling students to use a broader range of oral, aural, and written language skills. The main emphasis is on speaking, although students will also learn more grammatical structures and sentence patterns essential for further progression in Russian.
Course Content
In class, students will have ample opportunity to speak through pair-work and group exercises, listen to authentic audio/video tapes, read short texts, and complete exercises that enhance vocabulary and knowledge of grammar. The course will cover the following grammar:
- Perfect/imperfect verbs
- Uses of the Negative
- Declension and personal pronouns
- Cardinal/ordinal numbers
The course will also cover the following topics:
- Hobbies and interests
- Vacation/travelling
- Shopping
- Means of communication
- The workplace
Target Audience
This continuation course is for students who have some knowledge of Russian and wish to further improve their communication skills in oral, aural, and written form.
Learning and Teaching
The emphasis of the course is on participation, and students are encouraged to actively participate in class through various non-threatening forms of activities designed to stimulate communication.
Coursework and Assessment
To award credits, evidence of the knowledge and skills gained or improved is required. This may include reading and listening class tests, writing short texts as homework, and other assessments designed to enhance learning. The most important element of assessment is that it should enhance learning, and methods are designed to increase confidence.
