Education Program

The PhD program in Education is designed for those who aspire to be education researchers, university faculty, or research analysts. The program is designed so that students will have the skills, knowledge, and experience to be leaders and stewards of the field. Graduates from this program develop research and critical thinking abilities directed toward the creation of new knowledge, integration, and original application and/or teaching of existing knowledge and scholarly inquiry in their field of study.

Requirements

  • Graduate Admission Application: Applicants may only apply to one program. All documents submitted in support of this application become the property of the University.
  • Application Fee: $65 U.S.
  • Transcripts: Official transcripts must be sent directly from all colleges and universities attended.
  • Standardized Test Scores: GRE test scores are not required.
  • Test of English as a Foreign Language: International applicants must demonstrate English language proficiency by submitting TOEFL, IELTS, or PTE scores.
  • Essay (Personal Statement): Describe experiences, research questions, or dilemmas that motivated the pursuit of further study in the School of Education, highlighting equity and justice. Identify a School of Education faculty member whose research agenda aligns with the applicant's.
  • Rťsumť: Upload as part of the admission application.
  • Letters of Recommendation: Three letters are required, preferably from academic sources.
  • Interview: Virtual, in-person, or telephone interviews are required for qualified applicants.
  • Academic Experience: A master's degree in a related field with a minimum 3.25 GPA (3.5 preferred) is required.
  • Writing Sample: A sample of scholarly writing on a topic grounded in issues of equity and justice, citing relevant literature.

The program is designed for those with a high aptitude for research and inquiry in the field of education, with career interests in topics where the faculty is actively inquiring and researching.
