Scandinavian Studies (M.A.)
The master's program in Scandinavian Studies deepens students' knowledge of Northern European cultures, literatures, and languages. It explores Northern Europe's connections with the rest of the world, from the Viking Age voyages across the Atlantic to current issues of colonial heritage, cultural diversity, geopolitics, and the situation of indigenous peoples.

Programme Description
The MA in Scandinavian Studies is a consecutive degree program that builds on a relevant bachelor's degree. Students deepen and expand their knowledge of the languages, literatures, and cultures of Northern Europe and further develop their literary and cultural analysis skills.
Research and Study Focus in G飆tingen
The courses offered at the Scandinavian Seminar cover the literature and cultures of Northern Europe from the Middle Ages to the present day. The program is characterized by a particular focus on the cultural diversity of the region and its supraregional interconnections, as well as the application of current cultural theories.
Occupational Fields
The MA in Scandinavian Studies prepares students for careers in literary and cultural mediation or in the media, cultural management, publishing, museums, international institutions and organizations, adult education, research institutions, and companies with links to Northern Europe.
Structure
The degree program can be studied in 3 different profiles:
- Single Honours MA totaling 78 credits (Mono-master)
- Joint Honours MA totaling 42 credits in combination with one module package (minor) totaling 36 credits
- Joint Honours MA totaling 42 credits in combination with two module packages (minors) totaling 18 credits each

Application
Previous Studies
- B.A.-Degree or equivalent
- At least 150 ECTS at the time of application
- Eligibility: Students must prove achievements in the field of Older and Modern Scandinavian Studies totaling at least 24 C, but not less than 9 C in either of them.
Language Requirements
- Knowledge of Danish, Norwegian, or Swedish to the extent of at least 21 C must be demonstrated
- For enrollment at the Faculty of Humanities, proof of German language skills is an absolute prerequisite
