About Program

Program Overview

Practice-Oriented Nursing Science (B.Sc.)

The University of G—ttingen offers a part-time degree program in Practice-Oriented Nursing Science, which combines nursing science and specialist knowledge in one course for qualified nurses. The program focuses on either intensive care and anesthesia nursing or oncological nursing.

Features

  • The program requires a successfully passed aptitude test for admission.
  • Registration for the 2025 test is only possible from January 1 to March 31.
  • The program is part-time, with a standard period of study of 6 semesters.
  • The language of the program is German.
  • The program starts in the winter semester only and has limited admission.
  • Admission requirements include a nursing exam after three years of training.

Details

The program builds on the student's nursing training and personal experience, expanding their knowledge to include nursing, social science, human science, and health economics. Interprofessional competences are a focus, with some courses taking place together with students from other health-related professions at the G—ttingen Health Campus.

Study Specialisations with Options

When applying for the degree program, students decide on one of the two study specialisations: 'Intensive care and anesthesia nursing' or 'oncological nursing'. In addition, students can choose the option 'with further specialist training' and have the opportunity to take an additional examination at the end of the 5th semester and practical assignments between the on-campus courses to obtain the qualification 'Specialist in Intensive Care and Anesthesia Nursing' or 'Specialist in Oncological Nursing'.

Fields of Activity after Graduation

After successfully completing their studies and a possible specialist training program, many paths are open to students as specialists, including:

  • Controlling highly complex care situations
  • Scientifically sound, evidence-based, and reflective action
  • Implementing current research results in nursing practice
  • Providing professional counseling and guidance to patients and their relatives
  • Carrying out caring projects
  • Promoting the strengthening and management of interprofessional collaboration

Structure

The program includes interprofessionalism, practical action, and the organisation of modules.

  • Interprofessionalism: Students learn together with other healthcare professions and develop the theory and practice of successful teamwork.
  • Practical Action: In the practical modules, topics from the completed modules are taken up, and practical university tasks are set.
  • Organisation of the Modules: The lectures are generally organised in blocks of 3-5 days and take place in G—ttingen.

Application

The application process includes a study aptitude test, which is required for admission to the program. The test relates to the chosen area of specialisation. A successfully passed aptitude test is required in order to apply for and enrol on the degree program. The application period is from June 1 to July 15.
