Program Overview
Introduction to the Cardiovascular Science Program
The Master's program in Cardiovascular Science is a consecutive, full-time study program in English, designed to train international students in all aspects of cardiovascular science. This program achieves its goals through a modular structure, offering students with a background in natural sciences a broad education in the relevant basics and modern clinical aspects essential for understanding translational research questions.
Features of the Program
- The program is a Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree.
- It is taught in English.
- The standard period of study is 4 semesters.
- The program starts in the winter semester.
- Admission is limited and requires an application to the Faculty.
Details of the Program
The Master's degree course in Cardiovascular Science is a consecutive, English-language, four-semester, full-time course. Thanks to its modular structure, it includes a self-contained and comprehensive curriculum on cardiovascular scientific issues.
Study Programme
Building on a bachelor's degree in natural sciences, students are prepared for further content by being taught the necessary basics in detail. This content includes clinical aspects, which are essential for understanding translational research, as well as modern scientific approaches.
Practical Orientation
A central feature of the course is its strong practical orientation, intended to give students an insight into the everyday life of a scientist and enable them to gain an initial insight into various topics in the field of cardiovascular research.
Perspective
After the in-depth Master's thesis, students are optimally prepared for a subsequent career in cardiovascular research in academia and industry, as well as in related professional fields.
Related and Consecutive/Graduate Programs
- Related programs: Molecular Medicine (M.Sc.)
- Consecutive/graduate programs: Molecular Medicine (Ph.D.)
Structure of the Program
The Master's degree program in Cardiovascular Science comprises a total of 120 ECTS credits within 24 months.
- 77 ECTS-Credits must be collected within the degree program itself from the theoretical modules and the practical modules. All modules within the degree program are compulsory.
- 30 ECTS-Credits for the Master's thesis.
- 13 ECTS-Credits from freely selectable elective modules (language courses, business studies, academic writing, etc.).
Application Requirements
- A proof of measles protection must be provided.
- Preliminary studies: B.A. degree or comparable degree in a relevant subject area (Biology, biochemistry, molecular medicine, or a related subject area).
- Language skills: Applicants who are not native English speakers must demonstrate an appropriate level of English language proficiency through acceptable scores on an internationally recognized test (e.g., TOEFL, IELTS, APIEL, CPE).
