Programme Content

The profession of music teacher is one of the most varied music professions, characterized by a wide range of different ways of dealing with music and types of music that you deal with professionally. The training in Music takes place in the artistic-practical part with subjects such as piano, second instrument, singing, speech training, voice training, choral conducting, practical school piano playing, music theory, aural training, and rhythmics. It also includes a music education and musicology part with the disciplines of musicology and music didactics.

Structure

As a future teacher, you will study two subjects on an equal footing and round off your pedagogical profile with an accompanying Educational Science programme. A total of 300 credit points (ECTS) are required. This subject is offered in cooperation with the institution of higher education Franz Liszt Weimar, which means that commuting between the university locations is necessary. Music can also be proven as a double subject with a Bachelor of Education or Master of Education degree. In this case, the second teaching subject is omitted, and you will then study Music and Educational Science exclusively.

What Can You Do After Your Studies?

Career Opportunities

  • Adult Education: Outside of the school system, there are opportunities for you to work as a teacher in the subject area of adult education.

The teaching degree completed in Thuringia is recognized in all other federal states upon formal request to the respective Ministry of Education and Cultural Affairs.

Admission Requirements

  • University entrance qualification
  • Suitability test: The aptitude test is intended to provide evidence of a particular artistic aptitude for the chosen course of study with regard to the intended study objective.
