Program Overview


Introduction to Drone Videography

Overview

This workshop is offered in English and focuses on drone videography, enabling breathtaking footage rarely available in the past. Led by award-winning videographer Diego Rivera-Kohn, participants will learn about the laws that regulate drone flight in Canada and the basic operation of common consumer drones that don't require a pilot's certificate.

  • Duration: 15 hours
  • This is a five-class workshop, with each class lasting three hours.
  • Nine hours will take place in the classroom, and six hours will take place outdoors.

Our Approach

The workshop schedule includes:


  • Week 1: Friday, May 24, 13:00 16:00, in-class at the Mel Hoppenheim School of Cinema.
  • Week 2: Friday, May 31, 13:00 16:00, outdoors at the de Maisonneuve Field, Loyola campus (weather permitting).
  • Week 3: Friday, June 7, 13:00 16:00, in-class at the Mel Hoppenheim School of Cinema.
  • Week 4: Friday, June 14, 13:00 16:00, outdoors (location to be determined).
  • Week 5: Friday, June 21, 13:00 16:00, in-class at the Mel Hoppenheim School of Cinema.

Important Details

  1. Drones and SD cards will be provided by Concordia University; personal drones are not permitted.
  2. Students must have access to a computer or laptop to download images and videos outside of class time.
  3. In the event of insufficient participants, the workshop will be cancelled, and participants will be reimbursed in full.
  4. This workshop meets the requirements for the 1% Conformity Law (in accordance with the Workforce Skills Development and Recognition Act).

CCE Loyalty Discount

Students will receive a 10% discount on their CCE course or workshop tuition fees if they meet any of the following criteria:


  1. They previously completed a CCE, undergraduate, or graduate course at Concordia University.
  2. They completed a language proficiency test at CCE.
  3. They completed a CCE Professional Development Seminar/Workshop.

Your Trainer

Diego Rivera Kohn is the trainer for this workshop. With an MFA (Film Production) from Concordia University, Diego is also the Coordinator of the university's Digital Animation program. He is a licensed drone pilot by Transport Canada and has extensive experience in visual storytelling, with his films screened at prominent festivals worldwide.
