About Program

Program Overview

Quality Systems Engineering (MEng)

Program Overview

The MEng in Quality Systems Engineering has two main objectives. First, to provide students with the skills and technical expertise required to design, analyze and manage quality systems. Second, to maximize students' potential as researchers in the fields of quality systems, lean engineering and supply chain management. Those enrolled in the program will engage in applied research and coursework, examining existing theories and methods that currently influence the quality of systems, services, products and processes.

Program Structure

Degree Requirements

The requirements described here are in addition to the general degree requirements for the Master/Magisteriate in Engineering (MEng). Fully-qualified candidates are required to complete a minimum of 45 credits. Students must complete a total of 45 credits of course work at the 6000 or 7000 level.

Courses

  • 12 credits of Core Courses:
    • INSE 6210 Total Quality Methodologies in Engineering (4.00)
    • INSE 6220 Advanced Statistical Approaches to Quality (4.00)
    • INSE 6230 Total Quality Project Management (4.00)
  • 16 credits minimum chosen from courses offered by CIISE from the following Topic Areas:
    • E02 - Developments In Engineering
    • E66 - Systems Engineering
    • E68 - Quality Systems Engineering
    • E70 - Information Systems Engineering
  • Remaining credits chosen from other courses offered by the Gina Cody School of Engineering and Computer Science. Students shall only take one of the following courses: INSE 6961 or ENGR 6991

Admission Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Building Engineering, Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, or any engineering or science discipline provided that the student has the appropriate background.
  • Proficiency in English: Applicants whose primary language is not English must demonstrate that their knowledge of English is sufficient to pursue graduate studies in their chosen field.

Application Process

Review the four steps before applying:

  • Application deadlines:
    • FALL: July 1 (Canadian resident), March 1 (U.S. and international)
    • WINTER: November 1 (Canadian resident), July 1 (U.S. and international)
    • SUMMER: March 1 (Canadian resident), November 1 (U.S. and international)
  • Priority will be given to complete applications submitted by the deadline. In some cases, programs may continue to accept applications as long as there is space available.

Tuition and Funding

  • Tuition and fees of the program may depend on your student status, among other key factors. Estimate these costs based on the most common situations.
  • Awards and funding: Funding packages are generally available for students in thesis-based programs. Course-based students may be eligible for a number of donor awards, and may consult with their department for program-specific opportunities.
  • Out-of-province students: Get $3,000 in special funding for non-thesis master's programs.
