Program Overview


Journalism (BA)

The Bachelor of Arts in Journalism is a comprehensive program designed to equip students with the skills and knowledge necessary to succeed in the field of journalism. The program is offered by the Faculty of Arts and Science at Concordia University.


Program Overview

The program prepares students for the future of news, enabling them to become first-rate journalists and future decision-makers. Students learn a range of current production skills, cover the same events as working journalists, and participate in internships that provide valuable newsroom experience. The program balances practical skills with theory and analysis, and students benefit from small class sizes and state-of-the-art facilities that replicate modern newsrooms.


Program Structure

A Bachelor of Arts degree takes a minimum of three to four years (90 120 credits) of full-time study, depending on the student's academic background. The program offers a Major in Journalism (45 credits), which requires students to demonstrate a working knowledge of French. This can be demonstrated through a test of oral proficiency or by passing a specific course.

The admission criteria for the program include:


  • Quebec CEGEP: 22
  • High School: B-
  • International Baccalaureate (IB) diploma: 27
  • International Baccalaureate Career-related Programme (CP): 4.5/7
  • Baccalauréat français: 12
  • British system of education (GCE): At least two A-level exams with equivalent results
  • University Transfers (internal/external): B-

Additional Requirements

Additional requirements for admission include the submission of a Journalism Dossier.

The application deadlines for the program are:


  • Fall entry: March 1 (U.S. and international applicants must apply by February 1)
  • Winter entry: Admission to this program is available for the Fall Term only.
