Program Overview
Program Overview
The bachelor's study program in Brewing Science offers a well-founded and professionally-oriented education, preparing students for a transdisciplinary field of work that combines applications from engineering, natural science, and other disciplines. This program provides versatile knowledge about biotechnological processes in malt and beer manufacture, as well as the technical foundation necessary for a comprehensive understanding of technical processes and relationships.
Program Details
- Degree: Bachelor of Engineering
- Standard period of study: 6 semesters
- Credit points: 180
- Program start: Winter semester
- Admission: Restricted admission
- Language of instruction: German
Admission Requirements
Applicants must possess a university entrance qualification certificate. For foreign school-leaving certificates, proof of German skills at a specific level is required. Knowledge of English is useful but not a condition for admission. An interest in and comprehensive understanding of natural science and technology are recommended, with advanced courses in these areas being particularly useful.
Program Structure
The program starts with basic principles from natural science and engineering, followed by project work and integrated courses that teach brewing science in detail. The program includes seminars, labs, and a one-semester industry internship accompanied by additional modules, culminating in a scientific bachelor's thesis.
Study and Examination Regulations
The program follows a proposed course schedule that recommends how to complete the degree within six semesters. This schedule is not mandatory but serves as a guide for successfully scheduling and shaping studies. The most current version of the study and examination regulations applies to new students.

Content and Modules
The program is modular, combining curriculum content related to specific topics. Modules include various study and teaching formats such as lectures, practical tutorials, seminars, and practical projects. Students must earn a specific number of credit points and complete certain coursework and assessments in each module.
Internships
Multiple internships are mandatory:
- A basic internship (6 weeks)
- An industry internship (20 weeks) with a complementary seminar (6 credit points)
These internships provide experience in production and processing methods, initial experience in a technical or industrial field, and professional orientation.
Stays Abroad
Parts of the program can be completed abroad, either through study abroad or internships. Information on stays abroad is available from the TU Berlin International Office and the Career Service.
Acquired Skills
Graduates possess knowledge of brewing science, basic principles of natural science and engineering, and working methods and approaches utilized in engineering.
After Studies
The program prepares students for direct entry into the workforce, with typical professional fields including production, development, initial operation of plants, quality assurance, and sales. Graduates often work in the beer and beverage production industry, malt houses, fermentation companies, and supply industries. They may also be admitted to the master's program in Brewing and Beverage Technology if they can submit proof of completing additional technical prerequisites.
