Overview

The Environmental Management (Sustainable Water Resources) MSc programme aims to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to understand and analyse complex environmental issues, particularly in the context of sustainable water resources. The programme acknowledges that water resources are an integral component of the ecosystem, a natural resource, and a social and economic good.

Compulsory Modules

• The Total Environment: Develops students' understanding of the complexity and interdependencies of the most pressing environmental challenges.
• Environmental Tools & Methods: Develops students' understanding of a broad range of tools and methods used across different disciplines within environmental management.
• Integrated Water Resource Management: Develops student's understanding of fundamental processes that govern the water cycle amidst climate change, water scarcity, pollution, and their complex interactions with broader environmental and socioeconomic factors.
• Dissertation: Further develops students' understanding and technical skills in a specific area(s) relevant to the programme pathway.

Optional Modules

• Environmental Monitoring and Pollution: Enables students to understand the key management principles necessary for the successful implementation of sound environmental management practice.
• Sustainability, Policy and Governance: Immerses students in the intricacies of environmental governance, providing a comprehensive understanding of how policies and decision-making processes influence sustainability on global and local scales.

Careers and Your Future

After completing the course, students will be equipped with the skills to pursue a wide range of environmental careers, including Environmental Consultants, Environmental Managers, Policy Managers, Environmental Impact Assessors, Chemical Risk Assessors, and Environmental Protection Officers.

Teaching and Learning

The programme will be delivered through a combination of lectures, seminars, and practical sessions, with some online resources and support. Assessment will take a wide range of formats, including open book exams, reports, poster presentations, short talks, and requests to tender.

Assessment and Feedback

Assessment on the programme will mirror 'real world' experiences and provide feedback to support students' development and achievement. Personal tutors will coach and mentor students to ensure they achieve their goals.

The programme will be based at Brunel University London, with some modules and activities taking place off-campus.
