Mechanical Engineering (Partnership College Route)
The Mechanical Engineering (Partnership College Route) is an alternative route to the BEng (Hons)/MEng Mechanical Engineering degree. This program is delivered in partnership with Forth Valley College and Edinburgh College, where students complete a relevant HND, enabling direct entry to Year 3 at Heriot-Watt University.

This degree route equips students with a sound basis in theoretical engineering principles and methods, as well as their application in design and analysis. Course Structure
- Year 1 and 2: Students complete their first two years at either Forth Valley College or Edinburgh College, studying mandatory modules including mathematics for engineers and scientists.
- Year 3: Students transfer into the third year of the degree at Heriot-Watt and pursue either BEng (Hons) Mechanical Engineering or MEng Mechanical Engineering.
- Year 4: Students continue their studies, with the opportunity to choose specialist engineering units.
Fees and Funding
Tuition fees for entry are determined by residency status. Scholarships and bursaries are available, and students can view the full range of undergraduate scholarships.
Entry Requirements
- Years 1 and 2: Students must meet the standard entry requirements, which include:
- Two Highers at grade B and one at grade C or equivalent (to include Maths and a science or technology subject)
- Foundation Apprenticeship in Engineering plus two further Highers at BB or BC to include Physics and Maths
- Selection is made via successful interview and group task
- Year 3: Students must have completed the combined HND Mechanical Engineering from Forth Valley College before transferring into Heriot-Watt for Year 3 of this partnership program.
