Program Overview
Career Readiness Program
The Career Readiness Program is a series of workshops and resources offered each term to encourage UO international students to start preparing for a future career. Early career preparation will give you the confidence and skills necessary to help you land a job once you complete your degree.
Early career preparation can include one or more of the following:
- Getting a job on campus
- Getting an off-campus internship (paid or unpaid) during the summer vacation period
- Learning about employment benefits for international students
- Choosing or changing a major
- Understanding the U.S. business culture and norms
- Improving your business English language skills
- Learning how to develop a resume (C.V.) which highlights your education, experience and skills
- Learning how to interview for a job
Career Readiness Workshops and Events
Below is a schedule of workshops and events.
Fall 2025 Workshops
The following workshops are scheduled for Fall 2025:
- Week 2: Introduction to Career Readiness for International Students - Learn how to plan for your career while a UO student. We will discuss what it means to be 'career-ready', how to look for on-campus jobs and internships, and how to prepare for future employment opportunities.
- Week 3: Fall Day of Service - Days of Service support and cultivate a spirit of engagement and service on campus and in the community. They also can provide you an opportunity to explore what potential ways you can use your interests or skills to make a positive impact in our community.
- Week 3 & Week 4: Career Readiness Week - In the middle of every term, the University Career Center hosts a Career Readiness Week filled with daily ways to engage your career curiosity with workshops, panels, local career tours, industry and alumni networking events, and job/career expos that will help you develop the skills and connections for your career success journey.
- Week 3: How To: Resume & Cover Letter Tips (Workshop) - This is an introductory workshop for international students interested in creating a Functional Cover Letter for U.S.-based employers. Bring any cover letter you are working on, and your questions.
- Week 4: Fall Career & Internship Expo - Find your career fit with over 70+ employers comprised of private industry; public, educational, and non-profit organizations; local government, the federal government, law enforcement, and military--ALL on campus and excited to share more with you about their organization and early career talent opportunities. Open to students from ALL majors, classifications, and identities.
- Week 5: Pathways to Work Authorization for International Students - Learn about the F regulations for working in the U.S. Curriculur Practical Training (CPT), Optional Practical Training (OPT), and pathways to H1B and Permanent Residence.
- Week 6: Optional Practical Training Workshop - Learn how to apply for Optional Practical Training (OPT) work authorization if you are within 3-6 months of graduating.
- Week 7: Curricular Practical Training Workshop - Learn how to apply for Curricular Practical Training work authorization for off-campus jobs and internships.
