Program Overview

The Studio Art in Athens program is an intensive three-week studio art course that takes place in Greece. Through a series of lectures, fieldwork, daily excursions to archaeological sites and museums, contemporary galleries, and engagement with land and sea, students will have the opportunity to weave their experience of place and consideration of history and art into the practice of making art.

Academic Details

• Course: ART 488: Studio Art in Athens
• Credits: 6 quarter credits or 4 semester credits
• Level: Upper-division studio coursework
• Description: Students will apply media, techniques, and strategies to create art that interprets objects, images, and gestures from the natural world and culture of Greece.

• Instructor: Amanda Wojick, Professor and co-chair of the sculpture area at the University of Oregon

Housing Description

• Type: Shared apartment with a small kitchenette within walking distance of the Athens Centre
• Arrangements: Generally, two to four students in each apartment, although some houses will accommodate up to six people
• Meals: Students have the choice of cooking meals in the apartment or eating at one of the inexpensive cafés and restaurants near the Athens Centre

Scholarship Opportunities

• Faculty-Led Scholarship Opportunity: Applicants to this program are eligible for program-specific scholarship funds, with individual awards ranging from $500-$1,500
• Discount for Pell Recipients: A $500 discount for this program is offered to UO students who currently have the Pell Grant as part of their federal financial aid (FAFSA)

  • Upon acceptance to the program: $500 non-refundable program deposit
  • Between (or on) June 29, 2026 July 29, 2026: 50% of total GEO program fees
  • After July 30, 2026: 100% of total GEO program fees
