Program Overview


Program Overview

The Hispanic Heritage in Oviedo program is designed for Heritage speakers who are at the advanced Spanish language level. This program takes place during the month of July and explores the linguistic, social, cultural, and geographic diversity of the Spanish language. Students will enhance their awareness of the connections between culture, identity, and learning in the context of the Spanish language.

Academic Details

Heritage speakers will develop their Spanish language skills in areas such as grammar, written literature, art and art history, and business. The learning experience will be supplemented with several excursions in and around Oviedo. Classes are held in the mornings, allowing students to enjoy leisure activities in the area during the summer.

Housing Description

Students can choose from two housing options: Homestays or the university dorm. Accommodations are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis.

  • Homestay with a Spanish Family (three meals a day and light laundry)

    • Program start date or after program begins: Student is responsible for 100% of total GEO program fees

Discount for Pell Recipients

To expand access to study abroad, GEO is offering a $500 discount for this program to UO students who currently have the Pell Grant as part of their federal financial aid (FAFSA).
