Program Overview

The Chulalongkorn University Exchange program allows students to directly enroll in classes at Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok, Thailand. Chulalongkorn University is a top university in Thailand, founded in 1917 by King Vajiravudh to honor his father, King Chulalongkorn. The university has an enrollment of approximately 40,000 students and a campus that extends over 456 acres, including facilities such as a health center, library, counseling center, and gym.

Academic Details

Chulalongkorn University offers more than a dozen international undergraduate programs, which are taught entirely in English. Students will take classes alongside other international students and Thai students. The international programs include:

• Accounting
• International Business Management
• Economics
• Applied Chemistry
• Architectural Design
• Communication Design (graphic design and digital arts)
• Communication Management
• Language and Culture
• Psychological Science Students can search for classes on the web page of the individual Faculty/department. Students register for classes in person after they arrive. Typically, students will take most of their classes within the Faculty/department they select at Chulalongkorn, but they can take one class outside of their main department.

Language Requirement

There is no language requirement for this program, as all classes will be in English. However, students are encouraged to study some Thai before and during the program.

Academic Standing and GPA

The academic standing required for this program is Junior or above, and the minimum GPA is 3.0.

Application Process

The application process for this program is competitive. GEO staff will review application materials, and a decision about enrollment will not be made until after the application deadline. In some cases, an interview is required. Successful applicants will receive an exchange nomination from GEO. Selection will be based on a holistic review of the application, including GPA, transcripts, and written statements.

UO students should refer to the UO Course Equivalency Process and the UO Office of the Registrar Course Equivalency Database. Non-UO students should check with their study abroad advisor for more information.

Additional Requirements

Housing Description

Most exchange students live in Chulalongkorn University International House, a 26-story residence hall for international students. Both single and double rooms are available, but note that due to limited capacity, placement is not guaranteed. Rooms come fully furnished with air conditioning, modern conveniences, 24-hour security, and safety systems.

Budget and Price

The estimated total cost of participation varies depending on the term and residency status. The program fees include:

• UO Exchange Program Fee
• UO Study Abroad Fee
• Estimated UO Insurance
• Estimated additional expenses (housing, meals, airfare, book and course supplies, etc.)

Cancellation Policy

The GEO Cancellation Policy is effective from the time a student agrees to pay their non-refundable program deposit or electronically signs the program commitment form. The cancellation penalties are as follows:

• Upon acceptance to the program: $500 non-refundable program deposit
• 8 weeks before program start date: 50% of total GEO program fees
• Program start date or after program begins: 100% of total GEO program fees

Discount for Pell Recipients

To expand access to study abroad, GEO is offering a $500 discount for this program to UO students who currently have the Pell Grant as part of their federal financial aid (FAFSA).
