Program Overview
Program Overview
The Yonsei International Summer School (YISS) is a six-week program that offers students the opportunity to take 2 or 3 classes in English from a variety of disciplines, including arts, culture, humanities, Korean studies, management, economics, social sciences, Korean language, East Asian Studies, science, technology, and environment. Students can also participate in a 20-hour per week internship and take one class alongside their internship. The program is a good option for students who do not have prior experience in Asia or with Korean language.
Academic Details
- Students will take 2 or 3 classes, earning around 10-15 UO credits.
- More than 100 classes in English are available to choose from in various areas.
- Finalized classes and syllabi are usually posted several months before the start of the program.
- Students who want to participate in the summer internship will receive around 3 semester credits (5 UO credits) from the internship and will take one additional class.
- Most internship placements require an advanced level in Korean, but there are a limited number of placements available for students with beginner or intermediate levels in Korean language.

Application Process
- The program has a rolling admission application process.
- GEO staff will complete a review of the application materials of complete applications in the order that they are submitted.
- Decisions about enrollment will be made after submitting a complete application.
- Students are encouraged to complete applications and commit to programs early.
- Successful applicants will receive a nomination from GEO.
- Selection will be based on a holistic review of the application, including GPA, transcripts, and written statements.
Housing Description
- Yonsei will provide some spaces for summer school students at two of their on-campus housing facilities, International House and SK Global House.
- Placement is on a first-come, first-served basis.
- Students are strongly recommended to apply for on-campus housing as soon as they receive their admission number from Yonsei.
- If on-campus housing is not available, students can refer to a website for temporary housing and useful information.
