Program Overview


Program Overview

The CIEE: Summer Moroccan Studies in Rabat program is designed for students who want to improve their Arabic language skills and immerse themselves in Morocco's rich culture. The program will give students greater insight into present-day Moroccan society and explore how Amazigh, Arab, French, Spanish, and North and West African influences have helped form Morocco's identity and contributed to its diversity. All courses will be taught in English and complemented with immersive co-curricular activities and excursions to increase understanding of Morocco's rich culture.

Admission Criteria

Selection for the program is based on a review of the written application, recommendation, transcript(s), and completion of the interview process. Qualified applicants are recommended by a GEO Study Abroad Program Advisor. The final selection of participants is made by CIEE.


Application Process

The application process involves two parts:


  1. Completion of the GEO application process.
  2. Completion of the CIEE application process. Please note that the GEO deadline supersedes the CIEE deadline. An application fee is due at the time of application and is non-refundable under any circumstances.

Discount for Pell Recipients

To expand access to study abroad, GEO is offering a $500 discount for this program to UO students who currently have the Pell Grant as part of their federal financial aid (FAFSA).

  • Non-UO students: Actual credit awarded is determined by the relevant department at your university in consultation with the study abroad office. Check with your study abroad advisor for more information.
