Program Overview
Musicology (MA) Program
The Musicology (MA) program is designed to provide students with advanced competencies in music history and literature, musicology, and ethnomusicology. The program requires a total of 50-61 credits and includes a combination of coursework, research, and a final project.
Program Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to:
- Demonstrate advanced competencies in music history and literature and/or musicology and/or ethnomusicology.
- Gain knowledge and skills in one or more fields of music outside the major, such as theory and analysis, pedagogy, and performance.
- Have a reading ability in at least one foreign language.
- Have a culminating demonstration of professional capability in the major field, through the submission of a final project that demonstrates advanced competence in research and writing in music history, musicology, or ethnomusicology.
Musicology Major Requirements
The program requires the following courses:
