Program Overview


Music Education (MMus)

The Music Education (MMus) program is designed to provide advanced competencies in music education. Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to demonstrate advanced competencies in music education, gain knowledge and skills in one or more fields of music outside the major, and develop graduate-level perspectives on contemporary issues and problems in music education.


Program Learning Outcomes

  • Demonstrate advanced competencies in music education.
  • Gain knowledge and skills in one or more fields of music outside the major, such as performance, conducting, theory and analysis, and history and literature.
  • Develop graduate-level perspectives on contemporary issues and problems in music education.

Master of Music in Music Education Requirements

Candidates are required to establish an area of emphasis among the following:


  • Choral music education (voice and piano must be used)
  • Elementary general music education (voice and piano must be used)
  • Instrumental music education: band (traditional wind or percussion instruments must be used)
  • Instrumental music education: orchestra (violin, viola, cello, or double bass must be used)
