Introduction to Pre-U Junior

Pre-U Junior is the science hub of the University of Twente, dedicated to the development of young children into critical world citizens, driven by their curiosity. The program aims to stimulate the natural curiosity and research abilities of its participants.

The Pre-U Junior program is designed for students in grades 4 through 8 of primary education. The program offers activities that introduce students to the world of science and technology, fostering their research skills and curiosity.

The activities of Pre-U Junior are linked to the research themes of the University of Twente and are tailored to the experiences of the students. The program focuses on four main themes:

• Society: Exploring the impact of innovation and technology on society and finding smart solutions for future societal challenges.
• Health: Investigating the effects of technology on human behavior and health, including developments in healthcare, healthy eating, and exercise.
• Design: Delving into the design process of technological solutions, such as building a roller coaster, considering sustainable design, or designing a robot.
• Nature and Technology: Engaging in experiments and activities related to physics and chemistry, providing students with hands-on experience in a real laboratory setting.

• W&T lesson series: An in-depth, interactive lesson series for classes (grades 5-8).
• Scientist in the classroom: A guest lecture by an expert at the school (grades 4-8).
• Science on Tour: Scientific demonstrations and hands-on activities (all ages).
• All Schools Gather: A national research project for classes (grades 6-8).
• Xperimenta: An interactive science afternoon for individual registration (grades 4-6).
• Junior Science Lab: A workshop afternoon for individual registration (grades 7-8).
• Junior Masterclasses: In-depth, interactive lesson series for individual registration (grades 7-8).

Continuation after Primary School: Pre-U (Vo) Program

The Pre-University program of the UT offers a continuous learning path from Pre-U Junior to Pre-U, aligned with the level and experiences of the students. After leaving primary school, children can continue their development through the Pre-U program, which provides a wide range of challenging activities and programs with a strong scientific and academic basis, allowing vwo students to discover their talents and interests at a young age.
