The Bachelor's in Psychology at the University of Twente is a three-year program that leads to a Bachelor of Science degree. The program is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of psychology, including theory, research, and practice.
Modules Psychology
The program consists of 12 modules, with four modules per year. Each module covers a specific theme and integrates various aspects of psychology, including theory, research, and solution design. The modules are designed to provide students with a broad understanding of psychology and its applications.
Year 1
- Module 1: Psychology & Intervention Design (15 EC)
- This module introduces students to the field of psychology and the design of interventions to solve societal problems.
- Topics include perception, learning, memory, thinking, and emotions.
- Students will develop project management and academic writing skills.
- Module 2: Social Behaviour (15 EC)
- This module focuses on social behaviour, including social perception, social influences, and social relationships.
- Students will learn to describe and analyze team functioning and develop statistical analysis skills.
- Module 3: Cognition & Development (15 EC)
- This module explores cognition and development, including the biological basis of behaviour and cognitive functions.
- Students will redesign a device to make it more user-friendly.
- Module 4: The Individual (15 EC)
- This module examines the individual, including personality psychology, clinical psychology, and test theory.
- Students will develop a test to measure personality traits.
Year 2
- Module 5: Elective Module (15 EC)
- Students can choose from three elective modules:

- Psychology of Safety

- Module 6: Elective Module (15 EC)
- Students can choose from two elective modules:
- Mental Health (Clinical Psychology)
- Human Factors & Engineering Psychology
- Students can choose from two elective modules:
- Module 7: Research Methods & Research Project (15 EC)
- This module teaches students how to set up, carry out, and report on academic psychological research.
- Module 8: Psychological & Professional Skills (15 EC)
- This module focuses on communication skills, including conducting conversations, interviewing, and presenting.
Year 3
- Modules 9&10: Electives (15 EC)
- Students can choose to broaden or deepen their knowledge in psychology or explore other fields.
- Module 11: History, Ethics & Philosophy of Psychology (15 EC)
- This module explores the history, ethics, and philosophy of psychology.
- Module 12: Bachelor's Assignment (15 EC)
- Students will complete a Bachelor's thesis, tackling a problem scientifically and conducting literature research, data collection, and analysis.
First Time at University
As a first-year student, you will experience many new things. The program is designed to provide a comprehensive introduction to university life and the field of psychology.
Study Points
Student workload is expressed in EC (European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System), with each credit representing 28 hours of work. Students need to acquire 60 credits each year.
Binding Recommendation
The program applies the principle of a binding recommendation, where students receive advice on their progress at the end of the first year. A positive recommendation requires achieving 45 or more EC in the first year. Negative advice is binding and means that the student must quit the program.
