Program Overview


Qualitative Data Analysis using ATLAS.ti: A Critical User Perspective

Overview

This four-morning intensive workshop is designed to equip participants with the skills to conduct qualitative data analysis using ATLAS.ti. The program focuses on a critical user perspective, enabling participants to effectively identify, analyze, and visualize their research data.


Result

The workshop aims to achieve the following outcomes:


  • Identify the main data sources in research projects that can be used for qualitative data analysis
  • Use ATLAS.ti to import and prepare data
  • Apply a coding strategy
  • Examine and visualize data in a family of codes

Content

The program covers the following topics:


  • Setting up research data in ATLAS.ti
  • Sources of data and ethics in transcription and computer-assisted qualitative data analysis
  • Coding strategies
  • How to code in ATLAS.ti
  • How to search and retrieve coded text
  • How to create a family of codes
    etworks

Teaching and Learning Approach

The workshop employs an active participation and hands-on approach. Participants will work with their PhD/MSc research qualitative data (secondary or primary) and are required to bring the data and main research questions on the first day. Participants must have ATLAS.ti pre-installed on their laptops.


Duration and Time Investment

  • The workshop spans four mornings.
  • Participants are required to attend all course days.
  • Preparation time is approximately 6 hours.
  • Participants must prepare a 10-minute PowerPoint presentation for the last day.

  • ECTS: 1.5
  • The programme is designed for UT PhD candidates and ITC PLUS MSc students.
  • Maximum number of participants: 10 PhDs + 5 MSc students.
  • Assessment: Pass/Fail based on presentation and full attendance.
