Program Overview
The Master's in Psychology with a specialisation in Conflict, Risk & Safety is a one-year program that consists of 60 EC. The curriculum includes four compulsory courses, one elective course, a master's thesis, and an internship.
Structure
The program structure is as follows:
- Specialisation courses (20 EC): Compulsory for the specialisation in Conflict, Risk & Safety
- Group Dynamics and Interventions
- Advanced Research Methods for Conflict, Risk and Safety
- Psychology and Crime
- Psychology of Sustainability
- Elective course (5 EC): Choose one of the following courses
- Learning and Instruction
- Human Factors in Healthcare
- Compassionate Health Technology
- User Psychology
- Behaviour change
- Internship (10 EC): An internal or external internship
- Master's thesis (25 EC): The choice of graduation subject is largely up to the student
Internship
The internship is a great way to familiarise oneself with the work field and practise professional skills. Within the specialisation in Conflict, Risk & Safety, there are many interesting options open, including writing an advisory report or designing a training or assessment tool. The types of organisations for the internship can be diverse, ranging from consultancy agencies to governmental organisations.
Master's Thesis
The master's thesis is completed by writing a thesis on a topic of choice. The topic can be proposed by the student or connected to ongoing research in areas such as risk and crisis communication, decision-making, cybercrime, conflict mediation, victimology, safety perceptions, etc. The thesis can be completed at an external organisation, combining academic skills with hands-on experience. Possible thesis topics include:
- How to reduce ethnic profiling by the police
- How to protect people from falling victim to cybercrime
- The most effective way of communicating during a crisis to keep the public safe
Career Perspectives
The program provides career perspectives in various fields, including consultancy agencies, governmental organisations, and research institutions.
