The "Ontwerp je eigen app" masterclass is a program designed for students to develop their skills in designing and creating their own mobile applications. This program is part of the Pre-University activities offered by the University of Twente.

Program Content

The masterclass focuses on teaching students how to design and develop their own mobile applications, similar to popular apps like Snapchat, WhatsApp, or Instagram. Students will learn not only programming skills but also how to make their apps user-friendly. Under the guidance of university students, participants will work in pairs on their projects, combining creativity and logic to develop a working app. By the end of the masterclass, students will present their apps to the group.

Requirements and Outcomes

• Required Subjects/Profile: There are no specific required subjects or profiles for participating in this masterclass.
• Outcomes: After completing the masterclass, students will be able to:
  • Distinguish between technical and non-technical aspects of an app.
  • Develop a plan of action and execute it to create a product (app).
  • Understand how to shape an app using a business plan.
  • Learn basic programming skills using tools like Scratch.

Participation and Registration

Students from Pre-U partner schools need to register through their school's Pre-U coordinator. For students from non-partner schools, registration can be done individually. It is essential for non-partner school students to inform a contact person (e.g., a mentor) at their school about their participation, as the invoice for participation will be sent to the school.
