Data Management Bootcamp
The Data Management Bootcamp is a comprehensive program designed to equip first-year PhD candidates with the essential skills and knowledge required for effective data management.
Program Overview
The bootcamp consists of three components:
- An online self-study course (4 weeks)
- An interactive session (half-day)
- Finalizing a research data management plan (DMP)

- Target Audience: First-year PhD candidates from the University of Twente

- Online course and writing of first draft of DMP: 20 hours
- Interactive session: 4 hours
- Revising draft DMP: 2 hours
- Total: 26 hours
- Location: Two online and three offline interactive sessions in 2025
- Course Fee: Paid from central funds
- Trainers: LISA qualified teachers
- Course Materials: Online self-study course in Canvas
- Requirements: English language proficiency at level CEF B2 or higher
- Maximum Participants: 20 participants per faculty
Program Structure
- Online Self-Study Course
- Begins with an online self-study course on Canvas
- Instructions for completing the module will be provided via email
- Helps participants draft an initial DMP, due for submission one week before the interactive session
- Interactive Session
- Mandatory half-day interactive session focusing on data management practices tailored to the participant's faculty-specific field
- Data steward(s) at the participant's faculty will introduce discipline-specific practices
- Opportunity for questions and discussions with peers
- Final Research Data Management Plan
- Participants will be expected to make revisions to their DMP after the interactive session
- Data steward(s) will guide participants through the process
- Upon successful completion of the DMP, participants will receive a certificate
Important Notes
- Participants who fail to obtain a course certificate within 1 year will be required to retake the course.
- It is prohibited to sign up for a course more than once at a time. Any double bookings will be cancelled.
- Registrations for the wrong faculty will be cancelled. Each faculty has its own sign-up process. If there is no availability for the participant's own faculty, they should try another date.
