Program Overview
Data Management Bootcamp
The Data Management Bootcamp is a course designed for first-year PhD candidates at the University of Twente. The program aims to equip participants with the skills and knowledge necessary for effective data management in their research projects.
Course Objectives
Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to:
- Write a data management plan (DMP)
- Understand the management of data for verification and reuse
- Recognize the value of research data as scientific output
- Be aware of legal issues in handling research data
Course Content
The course consists of three components:
- Online Self-Study Course: A four-week online course on Canvas, where participants will draft an initial DMP.
- Interactive Session: A half-day interactive session, where data stewards will introduce faculty-specific practices, and participants can discuss with peers.
- Final Research Data Management Plan: Participants will revise their DMP, guided by data stewards, and receive a certificate upon successful completion.

- Duration: 26 hours (20 hours for online course and writing first draft of DMP, 4 hours for interactive session, and 2 hours for revising draft DMP)
- Location: Two online and three offline interactive sessions in 2025
- Course Fee: Paid from central funds
- Trainers: LISA qualified teachers
- Course Materials: Online self-study course in Canvas
- Requirements: English language proficiency at level CEF B2 or higher
- Maximum Participants: 20 participants per faculty
