Program Overview
Master's in Communication Science
The Master's in Communication Science is a program designed for international students who hold a bachelor's degree in a related field. The program requires students to complete two important steps: an eligibility check and the application process.
Admission Requirements
To be eligible for the program, students must meet the following requirements:
- Required diplomas or knowledge:
- Bachelor of Science in Communication Science or a closely related field
- Knowledge of topics such as digital media, network society, social networks, serious gaming, corporate communication, public relations, organizational communication, leadership, human-technology interaction, user experience, marketing communication, visual communication, multisensory design, social psychology, and behavioral change
- Research, mathematical, statistical, and analytical skills:
- Social science research methods
- Quantitative communication science research methods
- Qualitative communication science research methods
- Analytical skills, including mathematical skills at least at the level of Mathematics A or B at pre-university level
- Academic, professional, and design skills:
- Academic skills such as paragraph writing, theoretical framework, scientific literature review, and information searching
- Professional skills such as professional writing, corporate visual identity design, press release, spokesman ship, talk show interview, rhetoric and debate, storytelling, workshop design, persuasive shark tank pitches, negotiating, and app design
- Design and visualization skills such as infographic, audio-visual design, documentary film making, data visualization, and animation
Language Skills
Success in the program requires a high level of English proficiency. Students must meet the English language requirement by obtaining a valid English test result before the application deadline. The accepted language certificates include:
- IELTS (academic) with an overall band score of at least 6.5
- TOEFL iBT (internet-based) with an overall score of 90
- Cambridge C1 Advanced or C2 Proficiency with an A, B, or C grade

Exemptions
Students are exempted from the English language requirement if they hold:
- A relevant bachelor's or master's degree from an accredited academic institution in the Netherlands
- A three-year bachelor's degree in Australia, Canada (English-speaking part), Ireland, New Zealand, UK, or USA
- English as an exam subject during secondary education, depending on the country
