Program Overview


Master's in Civil Engineering & Management

The Master's in Civil Engineering & Management is a program designed for international students with a bachelor's degree in a relevant field. The program is offered by the University of Twente and has specific admission requirements.


Admission Requirements

To be eligible for the program, applicants must meet the following requirements:


  • Required diplomas or knowledge:
    • Bachelor of Science (or equivalent) of a high quality and level in Engineering.
    • The main subject of the BSc study should match the envisaged UT MSc programme.
    • Knowledge of the following topics: Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Urban Planning, Hydraulics, Construction Engineering, and Environmental Engineering.
  • Language skills:
    • Success in the studies requires a high level of English proficiency.
    • Prospective master's students with an international degree must meet the English language requirement.
    • The application will only be processed when the English language requirements have been met.
  • English language certificates:
    • IELTS (academic) certificate, not older than two years, with an overall band score of at least 6.5, and a minimum score on each section of at least 6.0.
    • TOEFL iBT (internet-based) certificate, not older than two years, with an overall score of 90, and a minimum score on each section of at least 21.
    • Cambridge C1 Advanced, formerly known as Cambridge English Advanced (CAE) from 2015 onwards, obtained with an overall score of at least 176 and a minimum score on each section of at least 169.
    • Cambridge C2 Proficiency, formerly known as Cambridge English Proficiency (CPE) from 2015 onwards, obtained with an A, B or C grade, with an overall score of at least 176 and a minimum score on each section of at least 169.
    • PTE Academic certificate, not older than two years, with an overall score of at least 63, and a minimum score on each section of 59 (Listening, Reading, Writing, Speaking).
    • LANGUAGECERT Academic certificate, not older than two years, with an overall score (band score/minimum score) of 70, and minimum subscores of 65 in Reading and Listening, and 70 in Speaking and Writing.

Required Documents

Applicants must provide the following documents:


  • Copy of diploma
  • Transcript of records (Bachelor of Science and knowledge on topics)
  • CGPA of at least 75% of the maximum scale (or the country's equivalent) and/or top 10% of class
  • Course descriptions
  • English summary of thesis (BSc or MSc)
  • Letter of motivation (max 2 pages)
  • Resumé (using the Europass format)
  • Names and addresses of referees (2)

Application Fee

International students with a non-Dutch higher educational degree must pay an application fee of 100.


Starting Dates and Application Deadlines

The Master's program starts in September and February. Applicants must check the application deadlines beforehand.
