Program Overview
Master's in Industrial Design Engineering
The Master's in Industrial Design Engineering is a program designed for international students with a bachelor's degree in an engineering-based, rather than a design-based, industrial design engineering program.
Admission Requirements
To be eligible for the program, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Required diplomas or knowledge:
- Bachelor of Science, or equivalent, of an engineering-based, rather than a design-based, industrial design engineering program.
- Knowledge of the following topics: Engineering and Design
- Language skills:
- Success in the studies requires a high level of English proficiency.
- Prospective master's students with an international degree must meet the English language requirement.
- English language certificates:
- IELTS (academic) certificate, not older than two years, with an overall band score of at least 6.5, and a minimum score on each section of at least 6.0.
- TOEFL iBT (internet-based) certificate, not older than two years, with an overall score of 90, and a minimum score on each section of at least 21.
- Cambridge C1 Advanced, formerly known as Cambridge English Advanced (CAE) from 2015 onwards, obtained with an overall score of at least 176 and a minimum score on each section of at least 169.
- Cambridge C2 Proficiency, formerly known as Cambridge English Proficiency (CPE) from 2015 onwards, obtained with an A, B, or C grade, with an overall score of at least 176 and a minimum score on each section of at least 169.
- PTE Academic certificate, not older than two years, with an overall score of at least 63, and a minimum score on each section of 59 (Listening, Reading, Writing, Speaking).
- LANGUAGECERT Academic certificate, not older than two years, with an overall score (band score/minimum score) of 70, and minimum subscores of 65 in Reading and Listening, and 70 in Speaking and Writing.
Application Process
The application process for international students involves two important steps:
- Eligibility check: A mandatory e-check to determine if the applicant meets the admission requirements.
- Start your application: After receiving the code from the eligibility check, applicants can start their application via the online platform Studielink.
Required Documents
Applicants must submit the following documents:
- Copy of diploma
- Motivation letter (max. 2 pages)
- Transcript of records (Bachelor of Science and knowledge on the topics mentioned above)
- CGPA of at least 70% of the maximum score, or the country's equivalent
- Portfolio, including work examples from previous education programs
- English summary of thesis (BSc or MSc)
Application Fee
International students with a non-Dutch higher educational degree must pay an application fee of 100.
Starting Dates and Application Deadlines
The Master's program starts in September and February. Applicants must check the application deadlines beforehand.
English Language Exemptions
The University of Twente does not offer English waivers. However, some exemptions may apply, which can be found on the University's website using the English Language Tool.
