Program Overview
Introduction to the Look After Your Friend Training
The Look After Your Friend training is designed to help students support their friends who may be experiencing difficulties with their well-being, such as stress, depression, or anxiety. This training is a collaborative effort between the psychologists at the University of Twente and the Student Union.
Purpose of the Training
The primary goal of the training is to equip students with the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively support their friends who are struggling with their well-being. The training aims to address common questions that students may have, such as:
- How can I help my friends with their problems without being overwhelmed myself?
- How can I listen to someone in a way that makes them feel heard?
- What does a particular diagnosis mean?
Training Content
The training consists of two sessions, each lasting two hours, and covers a range of topics, including:
- Practical tips on how to deal with friends who are experiencing problems
- How to support friends in their student life
- Understanding a diagnosis
- Familiarization with professional help services available within and outside the University of Twente
Training Materials
Participants in the training will receive a comprehensive guide containing information and tips on dealing with well-being issues, both for themselves and their friends.
Eligibility and Registration
The training is open to all students. Registration is free, and students can sign up for one of the training sessions scheduled for the second quarter. If none of the scheduled times are convenient, students can register for the Canvas page to receive announcements about new training sessions.
Training for Student Union Recognized Associations
Student Union recognized associations can request a customized training session for their members. The association can register by filling out a form, and the organizers will contact them to schedule a suitable time for the training. The training is free, with a maximum of 15 participants and a minimum requirement of 10 participants. All participants must attend both sessions.
