Bachelor of Musical Theatre

The Bachelor of Musical Theatre is a three-year full-time program offered at Griffith University. This degree provides students with intensive practical training in acting, improvisation, speech, voice, singing, dance, and movement.

Program Overview

The program is designed to equip students with the skills and knowledge required to become versatile and authentic performers. Students will have the opportunity to gain authentic performance experiences in professional-standard productions and develop their abilities in a supportive and inclusive environment.

Admission Requirements

To be eligible for admission, applicants must attend an audition where their abilities in singing, acting, and dance are assessed. While no prior formal music theory studies are mandated, familiarity with at least basic music theory will be beneficial.

English Language Requirements

International applicants must meet the minimum English language requirements, which include:

• A minimum overall band score of 6.5 on IELTS (Academic) with no sub-score of less than 6.0
• OR a minimum score of 575 on TOEFL
• OR an internet-based (iBT) TOEFL score of 79 (no sub-score less than 19)
• OR no score less than 3+ in each skill of the ISLPR (conducted by ISLPR Language Services only)
• OR a minimum overall score of 176 (no score less than 169) on C1 Advanced (formerly Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English) or C2 Proficiency (formerly Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English)
• OR an overall score of 58 in the Pearson Test of English (Academic) with no score less than 50

Tuition Fees

The indicative annual tuition fee for international students is $38,500. This fee is subject to change and does not include additional costs such as living expenses, textbooks, and equipment.

Program Structure

The program consists of 240 credit points, comprising:

• 160 credit points of core modules
• 80 credit points of flexible modules

Students must ensure that they complete a minimum of 60 credit points of Level 3 courses (or higher) and do not exceed the maximum of 100 credit points of Level 1 courses in their entire program.

Career Opportunities

Graduates of the Bachelor of Musical Theatre will be equipped with the skills to perform in cabaret, theatre, television, film, and musical theatre, as well as in diverse entertainment sectors such as festivals, theme parks, and cruises.

Credit and Recognition of Prior Learning

Students may be eligible for credit based on their prior study or experience. This may reduce the amount of time it takes to complete their degree.

Program Learning Outcomes

The program learning outcomes for the Bachelor of Musical Theatre describe the knowledge, skills, and application of knowledge and skills that students will acquire through studying the program. These outcomes are benchmarked against national qualification standards.

Australian Qualifications Framework

The Bachelor of Musical Theatre is accredited as an AQF Level 7 - Bachelor Degree.
