Program Overview


Master of Music

The Master of Music is a postgraduate degree that enhances expertise in musical professions. Students choose specializations to suit their professional goals and collaborate with peers to develop curiosity, learning independence, creativity, and pedagogical agility.


Program Overview

The program is offered full-time and on-campus at the Brisbane City (South Bank) campus. The duration is 1 to 1.5 years, commencing in Trimester 1 or 2.


Majors

The program offers two majors:


  • Pedagogy: Develops teaching skillsets with a focus on experiential cross-training design, building knowledge and personal experience across a range of styles.
  • Artistic Practices: Welcomes practitioners from a wide range of musical genres and disciplines, including performance, composition, conducting, songwriting, and music technology.

Careers

Graduates are equipped to explore further study, performance, teaching, and research opportunities. Potential careers include music education, performance, publishing, broadcasting, production, and arts administration.


Attendance Information

International students on a student visa must ensure they enroll in a way that allows them to complete their enrollment within the expected program duration. The recommended study load for international students in each compulsory trimester is 40 credit points.


Managing Study Interruptions

  • Leave of Absence: Permitted subject to conditions outlined in the Enrolment Procedure and receiving approval from the Program Director or their nominee.
  • Readmission: Students seeking readmission require approval from the Program Director. Application deadlines apply for Trimester 1 and 2 readmissions.

Fees

  • Indicative Annual Tuition Fee: $41,000 per year for international students.
  • Fee Structure: Based on a standard full-time study load of 80 credit points.
  • Tuition Fees: Reviewed annually and subject to change.

Entry Requirements

  • Academic Requirements: A recognized Bachelor degree (or higher) in a related discipline, with a minimum GPA of 4.0.
  • Audition and Interview: Required for all applicants.
  • English Language Requirements: Apply to international applicants, with minimum scores for IELTS, TOEFL, ISLPR, or other recognized English language tests.

Credit and Recognition of Prior Learning

Students may be eligible for credit based on prior study or experience, which can reduce the program duration.


Study Pathways

There are no articulation arrangements for the postgraduate Master of Music program.


Degree Details

The Master of Music is an AQF Level 9 qualification, requiring completion of 120 credit points. The program may be awarded with Distinction for students achieving a minimum program GPA of 6.5.


Program Structure

The program consists of:


  • Core Module: One major from Artistic Practice or Pedagogy.
  • Flexible Module: Either 40 credit points from electives or 40 credit points for research.
  • Prior Learning: 40 credit points for approved recognized prior study and/or work experience.
