Tutoring for Success Program
Program Overview
Introduction to the Tutoring for Success Program
The Tutoring for Success Program (TSP) is a supplementary academic tutorial initiative established to enhance First Peoples students' experience and success at university. The program is funded by the Commonwealth Government's Indigenous Student Success Program (ISSP) initiative.
Program Overview
The TSP is designed to provide eligible students with access to suitably qualified course-specific tutors. The program aims to support First Peoples students in achieving their academic goals and improving their overall university experience.
Eligibility
TSP assistance is available to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students enrolled in coursework programs, including undergraduate, postgraduate, and online students at Griffith University. To be eligible, students must:
- be of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent
- identify as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person
- be accepted as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person by the community in which they live
Application Process
To apply for the TSP, students must:
- Register using the TSP application form
- List all courses in which they would like to receive tutoring, outlining their specific needs and preferred tutor
- Email their Confirmation of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Heritage to the TSP Officer
Program Structure
Once a student is matched with a suitable tutor, they will receive an approval email with the tutor's contact details. Students are required to meet with their tutor weekly, and it is preferred that TSP tutoring takes place in the GUMURRII Unit. However, tutors and students may agree to meet elsewhere or online, provided that TSP tutoring does not take place in the student's or tutor's home.
Student Responsibilities
Students are eligible for up to 1.5 hours of tutoring per course, per week, with three hours per course allocated for study and exam periods each trimester. Students must develop Student-Tutor goals based on their learning needs for each course, and these goals will be used to manage weekly timetables and plan for assessments and exams.
Tutors
Eligibility
Tutors must be qualified, either through formal education or relevant experience, to be eligible to deliver tutoring under the program. Qualified tutors must provide certified copies of their qualifications and a CV for a reference check.
