Project Description

This Australia Awards Accelerating the Transition to Electric Vehicles for Sustainable Transport Solutions Short Course aimed to equip participants with the skills to be change-agents for best-practice policies and address how policies can be practically implemented in Indonesia to support its EV aspirations. The program was designed and delivered by world-renowned academics with expertise in EV technologies and policy, transport policies, transport engineering, and sustainable transport solutions.

Project Details

• The program saw twenty-five participants from Indonesia travel to Australia for an intensive two-week program learning from highly experienced experts in Australia's EV sector through a series of interactive presentations and workshops covering topics across EV policy, governance, infrastructure, and financing systems.
• This course considers EV transition opportunities across a range of transport industries, including passenger cars, motorbikes, freight, and more.

Outcomes to Date

Participants worked to complete an Award Project on completion of the course to implement their learnings from the program. Projects included:

• Bali EV Information System: One Stop Information Centre on EV Ecosysystem in Bali
• Attracting Private Sector Participation in Providing EV Charging Infrastructure – A Policy Recommendation
• EV Charging Station Partnership Scheme
• Applicability of Fleet Electrification for Decarbonisation in the Indonesian Mining Industry
• Travel Demand Strategies as a part of Non-Fiscal Incentive Program to Accelerate Electric Vehicle in Jakarta

Project Significance

The short course addresses SDG 11, "Sustainable Cities and Communities," specifically SDG 11.2: Affordable and Sustainable Transport Systems. The program focused on how to identify, explore, analyse, and plan for how Indonesia can accelerate its transition to EVs. This included upskilling in the approaches and methods developing in this field, learning of the latest concepts (i.e., collaborative freight charging hubs), and undertaking individual and group projects that would push forward the agenda in key parts of the EV ecosystem. Gender Equality Disability and Social Inclusion (GEDSI) education was woven throughout the course, focusing on transport equity in the EV context and GEDSI principles in the development of EV policies.
