Advanced Hazmat Life Support (AHLS)

The Advanced Hazmat Life Support (AHLS) course provides knowledge and skills for structured medical care of emergency patients exposed to hazardous and toxic substances.


Course Details

  • The course takes place over 2 days for a fee of 950.00 per participant.

Clinical Relevance

The course teaches a systematic approach to managing challenging medical situations, similar to ACLS and PHTLS. Topics covered include:


  • Behavior in hazardous, CBRN, and terror situations
  • Hazardous substance assessment
  • Systematic patient assessment
  • Recognition of toxidromes
  • Treatment strategies and antidotes
  • Concepts for categorizing noxious groups, their properties, and special features, focusing on:
    • Corrosive substances
    • Halogenated hydrocarbons
    • Systemically acting toxic gases and irritant gases
    • Methemoglobin generators
    • Cyanides
    • Organophosphates
    • Nerve agents and special warfare agents

Learning Concept

The course preparation includes the AHLS-Provider Manual (in English) and an online pre-test. Experts from pharmacology, toxicology, intensive care, and emergency medicine teach a systematic pre- and intra-clinical approach through lectures and interactive case studies. The "AHLS Provider" certificate is internationally registered and recognized, and participants become part of a worldwide community with nearly 22,000 providers in 84 countries.
