Program Overview

Master Health Professions Education

The Master Health Professions Education program is designed to train educators for the health professions. The program provides knowledge and competencies in the areas of didactics, subject didactics, educational science, pedagogical psychology, empirical educational research, and practical educational work with trainees, students, and pupils of various health professions.

Program Overview

The Master Health Professions Education program aims to enable individuals from the health professions to work as educators in training and continuing education. This can be achieved through direct teaching in different settings, organizing educational programs, or conducting educational research.

Program Structure

The Master's program consists of 120 credit points according to the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) and extends over 4 semesters (2 years) in full-time study. The program comprises 14 modules, where theoretical and practical competencies for health professional education and research can be acquired.

Part-Time Study

To better reconcile family and/or work with the Master's program, part-time study is possible. It can extend over 3 or 4 years. Exemplary course plans for part-time study over 8 semesters (4 years) or 6 semesters (3 years) serve as orientation. Additionally, the program offers:

  • Flexible study conditions
  • Family-friendly times for attendance offers
  • Individual counseling

Admission Requirements

The Master's program is consecutive, meaning it builds on a professional license and a first relevant profession-qualifying study with a subject-scientific orientation (at least a Bachelor's degree).

Program Profile

Practice Orientation

The program aims to provide practical training, enabling students to be well-prepared for their future tasks. To achieve this, the program maintains close cooperative relationships with various educational institutions, including schools of health care, universities, and continuing education institutions of health care providers. Within several practical study phases integrated into the program, students have the opportunity to test and deepen their pedagogical action competencies. University practice reflection and accompaniment by experienced mentors on site in educational institutions support this process.

Interprofessionalism

The cooperation of different health and social professions is a crucial prerequisite for addressing current health problems of the population. However, the training and continuing education of health and social professions often take place separately. Through exchange with other professional groups and insights into their training and continuing education, students in the Master Health Professions Education program have the opportunity to learn from, with, and about each other. This enables them to design, implement, and evaluate interprofessional teaching and learning offers later on.

Internationalization

The program explores how the training and continuing education of health professions are conducted in other countries. To this end, the program maintains numerous contacts with universities, colleges, and comparable Master's programs in Health Professions Education in various European and non-European countries. Students can gain their own experiences abroad using the mobility window in the 3rd semester. The program also welcomes teachers and students from other countries to stimulate international exchange on questions of training and continuing education in health professions.

Research Orientation

The program places significant value on advancing evidence-based practice in the training and continuing education of health professions, not just in their clinical practice. A solid education in educational research is a crucial prerequisite for this. The program provides students with educators who are actively involved in various research projects dealing with innovative tasks of health professions and their training and continuing education. This focus enables students to pursue a doctorate and a scientific career after successfully completing the Master's program, contributing to the expansion of knowledge in this field.
