Program Overview

Postgraduate Study Programme "International Health"

The Postgraduate Study Programme "International Health" offers a Diploma in Tropical Medicine and Public Health (DTMPH), a full-time 18-week program for German or international physicians who wish to practice tropical medicine.

DTMPH Programme Structure

The DTMPH programme is aligned to speciality training regulations of the German Medical Association for the sub-specialisation in Tropical Medicine and has received recognition by the relevant State Chamber of Physicians of Berlin.

  • The DTMPH programme may be combined with the Master's programme in International Health (MScIH) and/or the Diploma in International Public Health (DIPH).
  • Participants of the DTMPH programme are not enrolled as students at Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin.

Programme Components

The DTMPH consists of the following components:

  • The module "Tropical Medicine and Public Health" – called "Core Course": The Core Course is the foundation for the DTMPH, providing the basic knowledge and main principles and concepts of International Health. This full-time course takes place every year from early September until mid-December (15 weeks).
  • The advanced module "Parasitology in International Health": This one-week course covers specialized aspects of diagnosing parasitological diseases, usually running at the beginning of February each year.
  • The advanced module "Clinical Management of Tropical Diseases": This two-week course deals with the clinical management of diseases in countries of the tropics, focusing on syndromes, differential diagnoses, and individual case management, usually offered mid-February each year.
  • The (online) module "Consultation of Business Travellers": This asynchronous online course covers the medical and medico-legal aspects of business travellers working in tropical countries, which participants can complete at their own pace.

Further Information

The Core Course "Tropical Medicine and Public Health" covers main principles and concepts of International Health. Advanced modules are offered annually at Charité, including the Master of Science in International Health (MScIH) and the Diploma in International Public Health (DIPH).
