Training Overview
- The training lasts three years full-time and concludes with a state examination.
- The training is the basis for obtaining a professional license as a "State-recognized Medical Technologist for Laboratory Analysis" and for further specialization in the chosen field.
- The theoretical part of the training takes place at the Lette Verein Berlin, covering specific professional basics, including hematology, histology/cytology, clinical chemistry, and microbiology, as well as relevant medical technological and scientific knowledge.
- Practical training is provided by the Charité Universitätsmedizin Berlin, Labor Berlin Charité Vivantes GmbH, and/or the ZTB Center for Transfusion Medicine and Cell Therapy Berlin.
Responsibilities
- Examining body fluids and tissue samples for specific parameters.
- Preparing, staining, and microscopically examining tissue samples or examining patient samples (e.g., blood) for pathogens like bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites.
- In transfusion medicine, determining blood groups, erythrocyte antibodies and antigens, performing compatibility tests, and maintaining a comprehensive blood bank.
- Molecular diagnostics is another growing and exciting field of activity, where genetic analyses provide important decision-making bases for individualized therapy options in personalized medicine.
Requirements
- General higher education entrance qualification or subject-specific higher education entrance qualification, or an excellent intermediate school certificate.
- Strong interest and good performance in natural sciences and mathematics, along with technical interest.
- Good prerequisites for training include an internship or FSJ in the medical field and social commitment.
- Communicative and team-oriented, meticulous, and possessing a sharp power of observation.
- Physically fit for the profession.
- Very good German language skills (at least C1 level).

- Fair training compensation (gross) based on the collective agreement for trainees, which increases over the three years of training. The current training compensation (gross) at the Charité is:

- 2nd year of training: 1,275.30
- 3rd year of training: 1,372.03
- The training contract includes 30 days of vacation, an annual special payment in November, additional company pension in the public service (VBL), and capital-forming benefits (VWL).
